1. Introduction
Mengel Enterprises LLC ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Family Life platform at family-life.io (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service.
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you register, we collect: name, email address, and billing information (processed and stored by Stripe — we do not store full payment card details).
2.2 Family Profile Data
To provide family management features, we collect information you choose to enter, including family member names, relationships, birthdays, and household preferences. You control what family information you provide.
2.3 Financial Data
If you use financial tracking features, we may collect budget information, expense categories, and financial goals you enter. We do not collect or store bank account numbers, credit card numbers, or other sensitive financial account credentials. Any third-party financial account connections are processed through secure integrations, and we act as a data processor for that data.
2.4 Usage Data
We automatically collect features accessed, session duration, device and browser information, and IP address.
2.5 Communications
We retain records of support and other communications you send to us.
3. Children's Information
Family Life is a service for adults 18 and older to manage family information. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Family members' information you enter is collected and controlled by you as the account holder. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, please contact us at privacy@family-life.io.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
- Process payments and manage subscriptions
- Authenticate users and secure accounts
- Send transactional communications (billing, security alerts, service updates)
- Monitor for misuse or Terms of Service violations
- Improve the Service based on usage patterns
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for behavioral advertising and we do not sell personal information.
5. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We may share your information with:
- Service providers: Microsoft Azure (infrastructure), Stripe (payments), and other vendors bound by data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or government authority.
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger or acquisition, with prior notice to affected users.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Data Security
We implement TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and Microsoft Azure monitoring. No method of transmission is 100% secure. We will notify affected users of a data breach as required by law.
7. Data Retention
Account and billing data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days. Usage logs are retained for 12 months. Family profile data is deleted upon account termination. You may request deletion at any time.
8. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and Microsoft Application Insights to maintain authentication sessions and analyze usage. You may manage cookies through your browser settings.
9. Your Rights
9.1 All Users
You may access or update account information through platform settings. You may request deletion by contacting privacy@family-life.io.
9.2 California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to Know, Delete, and Opt-Out of Sale (we do not sell personal information). Email privacy@family-life.io with "CCPA Request" in the subject. We will respond within 45 days. We will not discriminate for exercising these rights.
10. Third-Party Services
Key third parties: Microsoft Azure (infrastructure), Stripe (payments), Microsoft Application Insights (analytics), Google/Microsoft OAuth (optional SSO). Each has its own privacy policy.
11. Google User Data and Limited Use
When you connect your Google Account to sync your calendar, Family Life requests read-only access to your Google Calendar data (the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly scope). We use this access solely to read and display your calendar events inside Family Life. We do not create, modify, or delete events in your Google Calendar, we do not use Google user data for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Family Life's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is accessed only to provide the calendar features you request, is not transferred to third parties except as needed to operate those features, is not used for advertising, and is not accessed by humans except with your consent or for security, abuse-prevention, or legal purposes. You can disconnect your Google Account at any time in Settings → Connected Accounts, which revokes our access and deletes the stored tokens.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy and will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification.
